The Mulga tree originates from the grasslands of Southwest Queensland in Australia, where it thrives in drought and intense heat. This evergreen is low litter and low maintenance, making it a perfect poolside or patio tree. It will slowly reach heights of up to 20 feet in ideal conditions, but only reaches about 15 feet tall in Tucson with rigid branches spreading up to 12 feet wide. Prune only to raise the crown to form a small upright tree. Little to no irrigation is needed after establishment, but additional watering during the summer months will increase the tree's growth rate. Bright yellow flower catkins add contrast to the grayish foliage in spring and fall, adding a pop of color to this tree.
