The Willow Acacia is an attractive, upright, usually single or sometimes multi-trunked tree with a compact growth habit making it suitable for small spaces. Named for its gray-green, pendulous leaves resembling a willow, the Willow Acacia sports cream-colored, fragrant puff-ball flowers nearly year-round. Deep, infrequent watering is recommended to strengthen wood, as the Willow Acacia is known to be brittle in monsoon storms. Crown raising may be necessary in high-traffic areas due to the pendulous habit of this tree. Training and staking is necessary on young trees to encourage strong, self-supporting tree. Though usually touted as low-litter, this tree is actually quite messy, as it drops seed pods throughout the year and should therefore not be planted near pools.
