Sweet Acacia is one of the most popular residential trees in the Southwest for its small growth habit and tolerance of poor soils and extreme temperatures. Native to Texas and into Mexico, the Sweet Acacia named for its small, highly fragrant, golden yellow puffball flowers that signal the start of spring. Little to no irrigation is required, though it will grow much larger with supplemental water. Maintenance is required to control suckers from the base of the tree. Avoid planting in patio or pool areas, as litter from flowers and seed pods can be high.
