This agave was named for its native range in the mountains of northeastern Mexico, at elevations of up to 9,000 feet, making it quite cold hardy. It is a medium sized agave, sporting armed, bright green leaves with large, reddish teeth and terminal spine. Imprints of the serrated teeth show on sister leaves, adding visual interest. This agave does well in full sun to light shade and is known to tolerate poor, impoverished soils. Like most agaves, the Mountain Agave needs no supplemental water once it is established. Plant this toothed beauty away from walkways.
