Penstemons are a large group of plants composed of many wild species found growing in a variety of climates, as well as numerous hybrids that have been developed for a wide range of characteristics. Grown exclusively by Civano Growers, Red Headed Beauty Penstemon is a new hybrid variety introduced by Russ Buhrow of Tucson. This genetic mash-up of (Penstemon palmeri x parryi) x superbus was selected for its outstanding array of purplish-red flowers, and for its superior vigor and longevity. The lightly fragrant flowers, featured on 5-foot spikes with nodding tips, are larger than those of its parents, and they attract lots of hummingbirds!
