Eremophila glabra ssp. carnosa 'Winter Blaze'

Winter Blaze Emu Bush

Australian-native Winter Blaze Emu Bush is a shrub of petite stature that tolerates little water and reflected heat. It tends to grow in the wild where there are long, dry periods and rainfall is infrequent. In severe dry periods, Emu Bushes can actually go dry and dormant, appearing to be dead, then flush back out when moisture is present. Because of these adaptations, it is not fussy at all and will grow well in just about any condition. It has glossy green foliage and the reddish-orange flowers that attract hummingbirds appear consistently throughout the year, especially if irrigated regularly. Winter Blaze™ Emu Bush is well suited to parts of the landscape that are difficult to irrigate or a low maintenance garden. Plant this Emu Bush with other xeric perennials like ‘Tucson Sun’ Sundrops and Red Yucca.
